The Unit-3 Flower Tasters Hard at Work

This was going to be just vector art printed, cut and pasted on to a painted board and then collaged with other elements but I got in photoshop and couldn’t pull out until it was finished. Now I can’t imagine it looking better if I did my plan A. Maybe I’ll try it anyway.

Just trying out some new paper (Archer 300gr), this works great with Noodlers ink, it’s abit rougher than my usual paper and with a more whitish hue than Sunders Waterford (my regular paper) but the ink dries faster.

Logo design. Persona Boutique.
I really enjoy doing logos (1 & 2 & 3). For me, it is the most refined form of visual communication. I recently worked with Persona Boutique (opening Q3 in Nashua) on their identity mark. These are some of my favorites from the exploration phase. You’ll have to stop in to the shop to see which was chosen for their signage. Click-Zoom.

The month of May ended up being more than just a simple blog break for me. It was like a super-charged healing and centering month. Part of it was due to a 5 week healing yoga class that was nothing short of amazing for me. I’ll get into more specifics later, but I just had to share this today…
Last week I was writing in my journal, just my usual brain dump and getting it all out on paper. And suddenly I felt compelled to write, really big: LETTING GO IS FREEDOM. I wrote it so big on the page that the letters of “freedom” broke into FREED OM. And I stared down at the page and read what I wrote — Letting Go is Freed Om.
Talk about a clear message.
I had been hanging on and clinging to so much lately (worry, fear, anxiety, monkey mind), and this was like a smack in the forehead. — Hey Lope! Letting it go means freeing your spirit/god/universe/om and getting out of the way. It means connecting with something bigger than yourself and trusting in that instead of being closed off from it. Letting every outcome be what it is and trusting that it fits into a bigger picture that we are too close to see.
Oh baby, I needed that. I felt a relaxing sigh flow through me…
Last night was the final healing yoga session, and our instructor brought up the concept of letting go (I’m not kidding!). Releasing our tight grasps and flowing instead. And I had chills because I had made little cards for everyone with “Letting Go is Freed Om” written on them. I raised my hand and said I just had to share this right now… I stood up and gave everyone a card and watched as smiles spread across the room. We all laughed about this little discovery of “Freed Om” and talked about what it meant for us in our own situations. It was divine…
So I thought it would be fun to offer a pdf sheet that we could print out, cut up into little pocket-sized squares, and put in our wallets, on our bathroom mirrors, in our cars, taped to our foreheads. Reminders to let it go (whatever it is) and be free. We could even print them out and bravely leave them in public places for other people to discover. Who knows, maybe it’ll fall into the hands of someone who needs it. Or maybe they’ll just think we’re all nutso in the cabutso… Wouldn’t be the first time.

Wishing you the best weekend ever. Freed Ommmm….

what a wonderful feeling…

time is just not on my side for drawergeeks lately. but i would have been kicking myself (which i’m sure is awfully difficult but i’d try anyhow) if i missed zombie week! so here is my super kinetically quick colorless submission:
one of my life long goals is to see/create a zombie musical, and i wish i had more time to do better justice to this image i’ve had in my head for a crazy long time now. also, trying some new things. pushing myself to use more solid blacks and be looser with my drawing. didn’t turn out as bad as i thought it might. though it needs a ninja. there will be singing ninjas in my zombie musical too. and david hasselhoff. as maybe a ninja.
also- i drew a guest strip for fellow floridian webcomiker derrick fish this week and forgot to tell you all to go over and read it on tuesday (i was too excited to talk about speed racer). so click HERE to go over and read it. dandy & company is a pretty hilarious webcomic, so you might find yourself lingering there a little longer than you want. but derrick assures me, that’s ‘okay.’

sketch

Hey folks. Sorry for the thin posting lately. I’m involved in a few exciting projects, but I can’t say too much about either….I was recently hired to do some character designs for a racing game, so of course with NDA’s I probably won’t be able to show that work for a long time.
This sketch is from a painting I’m working on. It’s for a large charity project. I’ll be sure to post more info once it becomes available to the public. I know the drawing is not too pretty at this point but this is just me working and reworking it until I get something. I’m starting to realize the large impact a decent environment can have on a piece, so look for fewer characters on abstract backgrounds from.
I’ll also be in New York June 17th-19th and my buddies are trying to organize making a trip to the San Diego Comic-Con (would be my first time). I’ll be wrapping up a lot of work over the weekend in preparation for the Illustration Academy which I will be attending for the next month and a half…it should be a great time!!!
And lastly, I was also honored to hear that the next 3×3 annual will be containing my work! Thanks to the great folks over at 3×3 for that.
take care guys!,
